Seyi Olofinjana, an ex-Super Eagles player, takes on a new role at Chelsea

According to The Athletic, Chelsea has appointed Seyi Olofinjana to a talent management post spanning Africa.

The new post with the Blues will involve making recruitment suggestions across the area, working alongside a newly recruited scout who will cover Africa.

The 44-year-old also serves as the executive director of Imperial FC, which competes in Nigeria’s third level.

Olofinjana managed the development and acquisition of football talent in Nigeria, notably Taiwo Awoniyi, who joined Liverpool in 2015 and is now at Nottingham Forest.

Many African players have achieved great success at Chelsea over the last two decades, including Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and Mikel John Obi.

However, they were largely bought from other clubs that had previously made the transfer to Europe.

The establishment of a dedicated operation in the region demonstrates a desire to attract talent early in their careers.
