In honor of the start of the Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1446AH, Makinde proclaims July 8 as a work-free day

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has designated Monday, July 8, 2024, as a work-free day in honor of the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1446AH.

On Friday, July 5, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, issued a press release stating that the state government recognizes the significance of the Hijrah in the lives of our Muslim brothers and sisters.

The statement reads: “The Commissioner said that the Hijrah marks the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, and is considered a significant event in Islamic history.

“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, we have declared Monday 8th July 2024 a work-free day in the state.”

The statement also encouraged all citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and throughout the country.

It also encouraged everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to reflect on the Hijrah’s teachings, pray for the well-being of our state and nation, and band together in a spirit of solidarity and fraternity.

“The Hijrah is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit. Let us come together on this day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in our state and our nation,” it stated.
