Bus collapses on Third Mainland Bridge, tossing passengers into the lagoon

On Wednesday, a commercial truck (Danfo) carrying many passengers crashed on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, confirmed the occurrence and stated that two adults were thrown from an eighteen-seater bus and into the Lagos lagoon by the impact of the accident.

Farinloye revealed that the two passengers—a man and a woman—who fell off the bus are being sought after by Marine Police officers.

He went on to say that the bus, which had the registration number FKJ 872 YA, was involved in the collision, which happened along the Adeniyi Adele axis inside Lagos Island.

The vehicle’s speeding driver drove off the road and struck the bridge railings, according to the NEMA official.

The two passengers were propelled from the bus and into the Lagos lagoon by the force of the collision.

“The victims, an adult male and female, are being searched by the Marine Police.

“The injured have been evacuated to a nearby hospital,” Farinloye added.
