Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor, was threatened with impeachment by the Rivers State House of Assembly on Saturday.
“Will not hesitate to impeach Fubara, if it becomes the last resort to uphold the Constitution,” the parliament said.
This was revealed by Martin Amaewhule, the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, at a press conference in the state capital of Port Harcourt.
There were twenty-six members of the Speaker’s entourage.
This comes as the former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, headed by Dr. Abiye Sekibo, came under fire from the 27 MPs who support Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, for his recent attacks.
Following the governor’s confrontation with Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in 2023, the MPs threatened to impeach the governor.
However, the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly withdrew their notice of intent to impeach Fubara in December.
The notice of withdrawal that was read aloud on the House floor on Wednesday included this information.
They stated that the choice was taken out of reverence for President Bola Tinubu, who had called a meeting for peace between the opposing factions.
