Reopening of air and land borders with the Niger Republic is ordered by Tinubu

Nigeria’s air and land borders with the Republic of Niger have been reopened on President Bola Tinubu’s directives.

He also gave the go-ahead to immediately ease other restrictions imposed on the nation.

The instruction was in accordance with the decisions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its Extraordinary Summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja, according to a statement released by the President’s media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale.

Remember that the presidents of ECOWAS decided to remove the economic sanctions imposed on Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Republic of Niger.

Along with lifting the ban on all service transactions, including the sale of power and utility services to the Niger Republic, Tinubu also abolished the ban on all financial and commercial exchanges between Nigeria and Niger.

Additionally, the President issued an order to relieve the Republic of Niger’s asset freeze on the central banks of the ECOWAS.

The announcement further stated that “travel bans on government officials and their family members also stand lifted.”

The financial and economic restrictions were lifted as part of the move that also included the Republic of Guinea.
