The arrest of alleged food traffickers is justified, according to the EFCC

Declaring it economic sabotage, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has justified the stopping and apprehension of 21 trucks carrying food products that were purportedly being trafficked into neighboring nations.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Abuja, this was disclosed by the Commission’s spokesperson, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Dele Oyewale, during an interview on EFCC Radio, 97.3FM.

He claims that the EFCC’s duty is to combat all financial and economic crimes, particularly those that have a direct impact on the economy in order to prevent sabotage.

He said “Anything that has a negative bearing on the economy is an act of economic sabotage or serving as a leakage, distortion or disequilibrium in the economy, the Commission has a responsibility to tackle it and that is what the EFCC has done.”

According to Oyewale, an arrest may take place anywhere, and our good monitoring allowed us to apprehend the smugglers at the exits that led to Cameroon and Chad.

As a result, he asked the people to applaud and encourage the Commission in its efforts to expand across the nation.

He said “The Commission is proactive and it is everywhere to ensure that the economy is revamped so that Nigerians can get optimum value.

“So, I think Nigerians should applaud the Commission more for being so proactive enough to tackle such incidental crimes.

“We all need to join our hands together to ensure that this problem of economic sabotage is directly addressed.”
