Shinji Okazaki, a former Leicester Premier League winner who contributed to the team’s incredible Premier League title run in 2015–16, has announced his retirement.
After the current campaign, the outstanding Japanese player, who spent four years with Leicester, will stop his career.
Shinji Okazaki, a former Premier League winner with Leicester, announced his retirement at the age of 37. During his tenure with the Foxes, he made over 100 appearances.
Okazaki said that his body is “falling apart,” which is why he decided to stop playing.
After moving to Leicester from Mainz in 2015, Okazaki scored five goals in the league during his debut year, helping the Foxes win the title.
Okazaki made 137 appearances and scored 19 goals while playing for Leicester.
‘I have given my everything as a footballer up to now,’ Okazaki said on Instagram.
“I felt I had reached my limits when I realized my body was breaking down.”
Currently, Okazaki plays for Sint-Truiden in Belgium, although due to a knee injury, he has only appeared in five league games this year.
Okazaki signed with Malaga in 2019 after leaving Leicester, however he never played for the Spanish team since his salary demands were more than the league’s allotted budget.
After that, Okazaki played for Cartagena and Huesca before coming to Sint-Truiden.
Okazaki is Japan’s third-highest goal scorer of all time, having made 119 appearances and scoring 50 goals in his country’s international career.
