Kylian Mbappe has allegedly informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave the club at the end of the season, when his contract ends.
According to Sky Sport, Mbappe informed PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his choice on Tuesday, and the club expects him to join Real Madrid.
The conditions of Mbappe’s departure have still to be settled, as the two sides debate whether he would go for a price or forego his own earnings. PSG expects Mbappe to honor his promise that he would never leave on a free transfer.
PSG and Mbappe are expected to make an announcement in the coming months after an agreement has been reached.
Real Madrid has long pursued the 25-year-old attacker, who would have to accept a salary reduction to join the Spanish club. The club will make him the highest-paid player in its history.
Real Madrid made an offer of €220 million (£188 million) for Mbappe in August 2021, which PSG declined. The attacker then elected to sign a new three-year contract with PSG, which ends this summer.
If Mbappe extends his contract by another year, PSG will value him at €150 million (£128 million) in the forthcoming transfer window. They accepted a €300 million (£256 million) offer from Saudi club Al Hilal last summer, but Mbappe declined.
The departure of Mbappe, whose salary cost PSG €200 million (£171 million) each year, would free up finances for the club to replace their star player, and it is claimed that many additions are already planned for this summer.
